About eFish

eFish is the original and first web based customary fisheries management tool deployed in Aotearoa (NZ). The system was in concept in 2006 and developed and deployed 'Live' in  2007.

eFish provides a purpose built, online customary fisheries management tool designed to capture, record and track data and information through customary authorisation (permits) transferred into eFish by tangata kaitiaki or Iwi administration.

The reporting features not only generate 'Live' data, but also enables Iwi to monitor high gathering levels within a specific location. Iwi administration can load alerts into the kaitiaki login screens to inform and encourage them to re-direct their permits to allow time for replenishment of kaimoana in that location.

eFish has developed a strategic relationship with the Ministry of Fisheries Customary Fisheries Office. The quarterly reports generated through eFish meet Minisrty of Fisheries reporting requirements which are retrieved at the click of a button to assist Iwi and tangata kaitiaki to meet their statutory obligations.

Empowering Tangata Kaitiaki

eFish believes in empowering and building capacity through training tangata kaitiaki and Iwi adminstrators in the use of eFish. It is imperative that any electronic system is understood by the end user. eFish has been built with this in mind and have developed a user friendly system to support uptake knowing that a large number of kaitiaki may have not used a PC in the past.

Our aim

eFish owned by IT & Web Development Company; Waka Digital IT Solutions. Our aim is to continue to build into eFish key management tools that not only monitor customary (non-commercial) data but also provide tangata kaitiaki and Iwi with key research tools that will help shape the future of sustainable resource management for maori.
